Amrit Bharat Station Scheme 2025: Unleashing Growth

Following PM Narendra Modi’s announcement of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on Sunday, August 6, 2023, it will breathe new life into transport hubs and improve the overall passenger experience at 1309 railway stations across the country.  The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme envisions the continuing development of stations with a long-term outlook.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a major initiative by the Indian Railways to modernize and enhance the facilities at over 1,000 railway stations across the country. The scheme was launched in December 2022, and is expected to be completed by 2025.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has three main objectives

A Quick Look at Central Railway’s Redevelopment of Railway Stations

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme would upgrade/redevelop 76 Central Railway stations. The stations listed are:

MUMBAI Division – Byculla, Chinchpokli, Parel, Matunga, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mumbra, Diva, Shahad, Titwala, Igatpuri, Wadala Road, Sandhurst Road

PUNE Division -Kolhapur, Hadapsar, Chinchwad, Satara, Sangli, Karad, Talegaon, Hathkanangle, Akurdi, Baramati, Dehuroad, Kedgaon, Uruli, Lonand, Wathar, Phalton

NAGPUR Division – Balharshah, Betul, Chandrapur, Sewagram, Pulgaon, Dhamangaon, Amla, Narkher, Katol, Pandhurna, Junnardeo, Hinganghat, Multai, Ghoradongri, Godhani

List of stations to be redeveloped in Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Bihar :- 

These 508 stations are spread across 27 states and union territories. Of these, 18 stations will be redeveloped in Andhra Pradesh, 31 in Assam and 48 in Bihar. These are as follows –

Andhra Pradesh:- Kakinada Town Junction, Tuni, Piduguralla, Repalle, Tenali, Kurnool City, Donakonda, Ongole, Singaraykonda, Palasa, Anakapalle, Duvvada, Vizianagaram Junction, Bhimavaram Town, Eluru, Narasapur, Nidadavolu Junction, and Tadepalligudem.

Assam:- New Bongaigaon Junction, Arunachal, Dhubri, Gauripur, Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Naharkatiya, Namrup, New Halflong, Sarupathar, Lumding Junction, Jorhat Town, Mariani, Narangi, Rangiya Junction, Diphu, New Karimganj Junction, Fakiragram Junction, Gossaigaon hat, Kokrajhar, Jagi Road, Chaparmukh, Hojai, Lanka, Amguri, Sibsagar Town, Simlaguri, Rangapara North Junction, Makum Junction, Margherita, New Tinsukia and Tinsukia.

This scheme will result in an improved travel experience due to:

Elegant Station Building: A brand-new station building with a contemporary and welcoming design will change the architectural landscape of Station.

Focus on Swachh Bharat: The station will implement a modular Sewage Treatment Plant in accordance with the Swachh Bharat objective, ensuring effective sewage treatment and a cleaner environment.

Aesthetic Platforms: Platforms will be given a new surface and an aesthetic upgrade thanks to the addition of enticing planting to the platform walls.

Passenger Amenities: Travelers will appreciate improved comforts such better seating, drinking water stations, and platforms with better lighting and ventilation.

Enhanced Connectivity: A redesigned foot over bridge, along with extra lift and escalator facilities, will make it easier for people to move around and get about.

Information & Guidance: Modernized train indicator boards and signage designed for passengers will make it easier to move about the station’s grounds with ease.

Functional Upgrades: To bring the current booking office and other administrative buildings into line with the scheme’s overall vision, they will undergo a full restoration.

Inclusivity: Divyangjan (specially-abled) friendliness shall be incorporated into the design of all upgrades to ensure that everyone has equal access and convenience.
